15 touching Sheffield photos showing D-Day 80th Anniversary ceremony in the city centre

Sheffield’s ceremony marking 80 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy was a touching affair.

Veterans, councillors and people young and old stood and undertook a moment of reflection as the Last Post rang out across Barker’s Pool in Sheffield city centre, shortly after 11am today.

The event, led by Father Grant Naylor of St Matthew’s Church on Carver Street, saw a number of wreaths placed upon the base of the cenotaph.

A crowd had gathered from 10.30am. Dozens came to remember the D-Day landings - a crucial moment in turning the tide of the Second World War.
