Pensioner rescued from toppling Vauxhall at Sheffield hospital car park

Firefighters had to rescue a Sheffield pensioner from his car after he got it wedged on steps at a car park at the Northern General Hospital.

A crew from Elm Lane fire station was called out to help the 72-year-old man at 12.30am this morning.

The Vauxhall Meriva had got stuck at an angle on steps that led out of the car park.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man was concerned that if he got out of the car without assistance it would topple down the steps 'as it was in a precarious position'.

After helping the man get out of the car safely, the vehicle was winched off the steps.
