Pension attack is a litmus test

Have your say

I AM writing about why teachers and other public sector workers are being balloted for strike action over pensions. The Hutton Report set out a range of changes to our pensions. Recent Cabinet leaks show the Government fully behind its recommendations while attempts at negotiations made no difference.

Teachers are being balloted over these changes and I urge all colleagues to vote yes.

Public sector workers (including teachers) will be forced to work until 68 or older to draw a full pension, which will by then have lost up to about £250,000 in value. They’ll also have to pay more in contributions.

However it is more than just the individual circumstance for teachers or other workers. The attack on pensions is the Government’s litmus test for further attacks on the working class: more job cuts, further privatisation.
