Pedestrian hurt in taxi collision

A PEDESTRIAN suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a taxi on Shalesmoor roundabout in Sheffield.

The 59-year-old was hit by a black Vauxhall Astra taxi near the junction with Penistone Road at around 12.30am on Saturday.

Police officers investigating the circumstances say the pedestrian was ‘in the road’ at the time he was struck.

The pedestrian collided with the front nearside of the car, smashing the windscreen.

He sustained a cut on his head and elbow and he was taken to the Northern General Hospital.

The 50-year-old Sheffield man driving the taxi escaped unharmed.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 31 of November 24.
