Peak run in aid of school

Have your say

HUNDREDS of runners and walkers pounded the hills of the Peak District to raise over £5,000 for a small village school.

The competitors all took part in the Grindleford Gallop, which follows a 21-mile route through Froggatt, Hassop, Chatsworth, Baslow and Curbar before finishing at Grindleford.

The race is organised by the parents, teachers and friends association at Grindleford Primary School, which has fewer than 70 pupils.

Proceeds go towards improving facilities and providing equipment.

This year’s event was won by David Riach from North Derbyshire Running Club, who completed the route in just over two hours and 25 minutes.

The first woman home was Kerrie Wood-Doyle from Stockport Harriers, with a finishing time of two hours and 56 minutes.

Grindleford residents baked 2,000 pieces of flapjack, cake and biscuits to feed runners along the way.
