Peak District climber escapes with minor injuries after 50ft fall

The man was leading a climb at Froggatt Edge when he fell the full height of the crag - around 50ft.

But members of Edale Mountain Rescue Team called out to assist the climber on Saturday afternoon said his fall was broken by some equipment he had left at further down the crag.

Spokesman Ed Proudfoot said: "At just after 4pm the team was called to Froggatt edge to reports of a fallen climber.

"A young man had been leading a route and was just about to top out when he fell the full height of the crag - around 50ft.

"Fortunately for him he had placed some gear, which although well below him just about took some of the momentum out of the fall before he hit the deck."

The air ambulance was called out but after an assessment it was established that the climber had escaped with minor leg and back injuries and that he could be driven by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital instead.
