Paul's scholarship provides hands-on training

ENGINEERING student Paul Dack has become one of a handful invited to join an elite South Yorkshire engineering scholarship scheme.

Paul, 18, from Worksop has been studying engineering at Rotherham College and has been invited to join the South Yorkshire Engineering Scholarship scheme because of his consistently high achievement and approach to his studies.

The scholarship was launched in response to a shortfall in high calibre students entering engineering and manufacturing industries and has given Paul a chance to gain direct experience of industry.

Paul said: “I have found the scholarship really useful. Unfortunately we don’t get much hands-on experience at College but the Scholarship found me a place at electrical component manufacturer, Kostal UK, in Goldthorpe where I have been learning on the job.

“I am also using the industry software at Kostal to produce electronic circuit diagrams, something that I am really interested in.”

Kostal UK’s senior electronics design engineer, David Bentley, said: “Paul was initially introduced to us last summer when he was placed here on work experience. His hard work and dedication impressed us enough to offer him a permanent job.”
