POLICE will be stepping up speed camera patrols this week as part of a campaign to target reckless drivers.
The South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership has signed up to an enforcement initiative taking place across Europe, carrying out dedicated operations around the county.
The campaign is organised by the European Traffic Police Network, set up to reduce the numbers of deaths on roads across the continent.
Chf Insp Stuart Walne said: “Too many people are being killed on the roads of South Yorkshire simply because they are driving too fast.
“We want drivers and passengers to understand that by sticking to the speed limits and reducing speed when required to suit weather conditions, unnecessary deaths can be prevented.”
