Patients at Sheffield hospital delayed access following '˜operational problem'

Patients and staff at Hallamshire Hosptial were unable to enter this morning after an '˜operational problem' left some entrances and the multi-storey car park locked.

The problem caused gridlock traffic outside the hospital and staff sitting on the floor waiting to get into their departments between 7-7:30am.

A member of staff at the hospital said patients arriving at 7am were not clocked in for their operations on time.

Hilary Chapman, Chief Nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We have had an operational problem this morning which has meant some entrances to the Hallamshire Hospital have not been able to be opened at the usual time. This also included the multi storey car park.

“We have had people resolving the problem and all areas have now been opened. We apologise for the disruption to traffic flow and patients this has temporarily caused. The problem will not cause any care to be cancelled.

“We will be ensuring measures are taken to ensure this does not happen again,” she added.
