Passengers bank on bus

A NEW bus service is helping connect a rural community on the edge of Sheffield with the city centre and has carried hundreds of passengers since its launch.

The M64 runs from Rivelin to Arundel Gate three times a day and serves the steep Walkley Bank Road area, which has never previously had public transport.

Operated by Sheffield Community Transport and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, a 12-seater low-floor bus was introduced in response to requests.

The M64 runs Monday to Friday from Arundel Gate via Hillsborough to Rivelin at 10.35, 12.48 and 14.48, and from Rivelin via Hillsborough to Arundel Gate at 08.50 and 11.10, with a journey from Rivelin to Hillsborough at 15.20.

The service is funded by a Government grant and will initially run for a trial period until January 30, 2012.
