An office worker who watched the drama unfold told how he saw the panicked driver running towards her vehicle in City Road, Manor Top, at around 12.30pm.

"She must have parked her car to go to the shops, but it wasn't parked properly and it rolled across the road straight into a tram," said the worker, who asked not to be named.

"She's come out of the shop and started running when she realised her car's now parked up against the side of the tram.

"It stopped the traffic but there didn't appear to be any damage to the tram or the car.

"It was quite funny to watch but if someone had been crossing there the car could have veered into them and killed or injured them."

A spokesman for the Stagecoach Group, which operates the Supertram, said the crash happened at about 12.35pm on Tuesday, November 8.

He said there was no damage and no injuries, and the collision had not disrupted the service to Herdings Road.
