Park projects plan proceeds

Work to create a new ‘pocket park’ as part of flood defences in Sheffield city centre is set to be completed in July.

The project has involved creating terraces in the river bank and barriers designed to guard against a ‘one in 100 year’ flood on Nursery Street, beside the River Don.

Some of the barriers are temporary interim with the intention of replacing them in the future if plans go ahead to partially close Nursery Street and extend the riverside park, when funding allows.

The pocket park is one of a series of improvements around the area which have also included restoration of bridges and clearance of debris from the river.
