Liberal Democrat councillors are calling on council bosses to apply for Green Flag status for more Sheffield parks.

During the three years of Lib Dem control, between 2008 and 2011, the number of Sheffield green spaces awarded Green Flag status doubled from six to 12. Lib Dem councillors will present a motion to Sheffield Council’s full council meeting tomorrow, urging the new Labour administration to apply for the award for green spaces such as Hillsborough Park, Rivelin Valley Park and Burngreave Recreation Ground.

Lib Dem leader Coun Shaffaq Mohammed, said: “I know first-hand how pleasing it is to see months of hard work rewarded with Green Flag’ status. The council should wave the flag for our fantastic local green spaces.”
