Parish council increase is quite small

Have your say

I have seen a couple of letters criticising Ecclesfield Parish Council’s recent precept increase. In real terms, this increase is quite small (in my case less than 4p a month).

However, I suspect they need this extra money to pay for the running of Chapeltown toilets, effectively bailing out the Labour-controlled city council, who shut them.

Let’s not forget the parish council also make a substantial contribution to Chapeltown Swimming Pool (something else Labour tried to close), which has been run by the community since 1996.

Rather than complaining about our parish council, I would suggest the real culprits of mismanaging our finances are the city council.

They continue to waste money on office makeovers, full-time union officials and consultants, while removing funding from 16 libraries.
