Panic alarms issued following robbery and sex attack in Rotherham

Police issued panic alarms and gave out personal safety advice at an event in Maltby following a number of incidents in the town.

In October, 80-year-old Tommy Ward was battered in a robbery in his home in Salisbury Road.

A safe containing his £30,000 life savings was stolen.

Two 19-year-old men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary have been bailed.

Later that month a woman was sexually assaulted by one of two masked men, armed with a knife, who broke into her home.

Sergeant Sharon Hulley, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We are working hard with Maltby Town Council to reassure the community about their safety and this event provided a great opportunity to speak to residents about their concerns.

“There have been several serious incidents in the area in recent months and we know that this has caused upset and distress.”
