A STUDENT who threw paint over Sheffield MP and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has been fined £200.

Stuart Rodger, aged 23, threw an egg containing blue paint at the politician as the Lib Dem leader visited Glasgow to meet party representatives last August.

The politics student later declared Mr Clegg had ‘deserved it’.

Rodger, of Inverkeithing in Fife, was hit with a fine after admitting breach of the peace when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Mr Clegg had insisted the incident was ‘not a big deal’.

Rodger, aged 23, carried out the attack because he was unhappy at the Lib Dems coalition with the Tories.

The court heard Rodger was ‘shouting aggressively’ as he ran towards Mr Clegg’s car.

Sheriff Brian Adair said: “This country prides itself in free speech and protesting within limits, but your actions were criminal.”
