Paedophile pensioner jailed for offences in Sheffield

A paedophile pensioner who was caught with indecent images of children has been jailed.

James Sargeant, aged 76, of Saxonlea Crescent, Manor, who South Yorkshire Police said 'has a history of sexual offences', was jailed for 30 months for breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

He was also jailed for possessing indecent images of children and extreme images.

South Yorkshire Police said an investigation was launched in October 2015 following concerns raised in South Yorkshire and other areas.

PC Donna Thompson, who led the investigation, has said: “I am extremely happy with the results we have been able to achieve today. The investigation included intensive work by the Sheffield sex offender team, who worked extensively to gather all of the evidence for the case.

“Sargeant has now been taken off the streets and is behind bars were he cannot cause any further harm.
