The Sheffield Wednesday Steel City Fit Club is on the lookout for new recruits to particpate in the low-impact, football related sessions, held at Hillsborough every Tuesday.

The group, led by former Owls striker John Pearson, is keen to enlist Owls supporters who have an interest in improving their health and fitness - and who fancy stepping out onto the pitch their footballing heroes play on every week.

Funded by Sport England, the fit club will give people across Sheffield the chance to get more physically active, as well as enjoy fun and engaging education sessions about gaining a healthy lifestyle.

The sessions aim to get more women, older people and inactive people participating in sports.

The project is being run by Sheffield International Venues, which is working with the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and the Sheffield United Community Foundation to deliver fitness programmes across the city to help people improve their health and fitness.

Ken Hargreaves, 69, took part in the scheme’s first programme. He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the club at Hillsborough and it has helped me lose weight and I feel a lot healthier. I recently quit smoking and I feel 100 per cent better.”
