Oversized tools at Kelham Island

‘The Giant’s Toolbox’ features items made for displays at trade shows, shop windows and general promotion - all made to the same exacting standards and with the same materials at the original, normal-sized tools.

The tools in the exhibition include trowels, screwdrivers, chisels and pliers and all are made by the Pond Company.

Niki Connolly, Events and Marketing Manager at Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust, said: “The exhibition is a result of a claim made by Arthur Pond, a City of London Alderman, who claimed that he could get any size of tool made; he was then challenged to prove it!

“A number of photographs, catalogues and other items associated with trade exhibitions and fairs are included in the exhibition. Thanks to National Lottery players this exhibition has been mounted as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund project ‘Sheffield Craft That Built The World – Capturing and Sustaining Knowledge For Future Generations’.”
