SHEFFIELD’S Half Marathon has got off to a flying start with more than 1,000 eager runners having already signed up to take part.
The event, renowned for attracting runners of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, promises to be one of the biggest participation events in Sheffield’s sporting calendar
The race, sponsored by SIG Insulations, looks set to once again reach its capacity well in advance of race date, after the 2011 event reached the milestone 11 weeks before the event.
Ian Thomas, entries co-ordinator, said: “It is fantastic that people are already showing their support for the city’s oldest road race.
“We would recommend that those who are planning on entering the race do so soon as last year saw the fastest sign-up rate in the race’s history. We expect 2012 to be no different, particularly as we are seeing more and more people inspired by the Olympic Games.”
The SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, May 27, at Don Valley Stadium with a new start time of 9am.
As well as the half marathon, Sheffield’s Great Fun Run will also take place on the same day.
Proceeds from the half marathon will benefit the British Heart Foundation, Myasthenia Gravis Association, St Luke’s Hospice, Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre South Yorkshire, Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Sheffield Teenage Cancer Trust, Support Dogs, Breast Cancer Care and the Children’s Hospital Charity.
