'˜Outstanding ... absolutely brilliant' - Sheffield Wednesday team mate hails goal-hero Jordan Rhodes
Jack Hunt has saluted Sheffield Wednesday teammate Jordan Rhodes after the striker ended his barren run in front of goal in their Yorkshire derby win over Hull City on Saturday.
Rhodes, the Owls’ record £8m buy, ended his 12-match goal drought at the KCOM Stadium.
In the absence of injured duo Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao, Rhodes led the line and he headed in Hunt’s 18th minute cross to bag his first goal this calendar year.
Hunt, who came off injured on Saturday, told The Star: “Jordan has obviously been frustrated that he has not been playing. Atdhe and Lucas have been fantastic recently so Jordan has had to wait for his chance.
“He took his chance against Hull. I thought he was outstanding. Absolutely brilliant.
“Jordan took his goal well and he worked tirelessly.”
It was Rhodes’ 99th Championship goal of his career and the first time he had found the back of the net since Boxing Day.
“Credit to Jordan for keeping himself going over the last few months,” said Hunt. “He has kept on believing in himself and tried not to let his confidence drop too much.
“Jordan has done all he can to get back into the manager’s thoughts to start the next game. The manager picks the team and he knows his players.
“Jordan got the chance against Hull and he definitely took it.”
