JESSICA Ennis is among the favourites for nomination for the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year Award.

Sheffield’s heptathlon gold medal winner Jess is one of several contenders including a trio of multi-medal American Olympians in Allyson Felix, Missy Franklin and Serena Williams.

The Laureus World Sports Awards are recognised as premier honours in the international sporting calendar and the winners will be unveiled during a globally televised ceremony in Rio de Janeiro.

Proceeds from the awards directly benefit the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which supports more than 100 community sports projects around the world that have helped to improve the lives of over one-and-a-half million youngsters.
