Willpower?
Reading EB Warris’s letter, Young Man Begging, (Star, December 3, 2015), reminded me of the story from the Thatcher years of a dishevelled young chap obviously down on his luck standing outside the main entrance to food emporium Fortnum & Mason.
When a well-heeled woman came by him he held out his cap, tugged his forelock and said to her, “please missus, I haven’t eaten for three days”.
To wit the woman concerned replied, “Good God man, I admire your willpower!” and swept on by.
