Where's the help for our flood victims?

I HAVE one or two unanswered questions regarding the floods.

Where is the money from overseas? Britain sends billions every year to other countries and is always one of the first countries to help out in any disaster. Isn’t there a pot for us to dip into?

Why is it always the ordinary people to collect money. We seem to have to raise funds for everything these days. Why can’t people on benefits help clear the mess left by the floods? It would be a way of earning their keep instead of roaming around town all day; one sees numerous able-bodied young people doing this every day (they are not all night shift workers are they!).

What about those on community service? It would be very good rehabilitation for them and serve as pay back time.

The flood victims are struggling daily to get their lives, homes and streets back to normal, but apart from friends, neighbours and volunteers, they are alone in their struggle. Let us put things right. These people need help now, not after the powers-that-be have had yet more talks on how to tackle the problem. Action, not words, is needed; three weeks have already passed since this devastation.
