We loved rebel music but we behaved ourselves in the '70s

IN THE 1970s, as kids, we didn't have computer games, camera phones and moronic TV programmes, like Big Brother.

We listened to rebellious music, heavy metal and punk, but didn’t become foul-mouthed yobs. We didn’t binge drink or do hard drugs: those things weren’t easily accessed like today.

Things weren’t perfect; football hooliganism and racism were rife.

But knife crime and muggings were very uncommon. Gun crime was something that only generally happened in America.

Sundays were usually spent with the family, rather than at a retail park (which didn’t exist then!).

Single parents and divorces were far less common in the ’ 70s. The threat of the cane at school or a clip from our parents kept most of us in line.

Society was in a better moral state than it is now.
