Not a comfort to victim

I read with interest that a senior South Yorkshire Police Officer has found it necessary to come to the defence of hoodies - jumping on David Cameron's bandwagon.

I speak of Superintendent Keith Lumley who criticised a man from Rotherham for having the audacity to label a group of yobs who surrounded his wife's car as 'hoodie scum'. This woman had been blocked in by these yobs using road traffic cones who then threw them at her and her car when she had the bravery to get out and move them so she could continue on her rightful way, according to your report.

What would Supt Lumley have done had he been in civilian clothing and in his own car and this had happened to him? Would he have got out and spoken with them and probably been beaten up because of this?

Or would he have used his influence and phoned for a patrol car to speed to the location and deal with the situation, a luxury the lady would not have had?

I have no doubt Supt Lumley enjoys a nice comfortable office from which to spout forth all of this Guardian-reading drivel about hug a hood, let's learn from them and such like but if he actually got down to doing the job he is paid for and keeping these feral youths from our streets then Mr Oram would not feel the need to give these youths such a title. It was interesting to also read that Mr Lumley says he would be upset if he was Mr Oram, very nice of you Mr Lumley, very re-assuring.

I also have no doubt had the lady victim sped away from the scene she would have been pulled over for driving without due care and attention by South Yorkshire's finest.

Yours a concerned citizen
