New children's ambulance is a matter of urgency

I write to bring to the attention of your readers that your Children's Hospital Charity are currently urgently raising funds to replace the hospitals aged specialist children's intensive care ambulance.

This unique ambulance known as Bear 1 was purchased by the charity about 10 years ago. Its role is to transport very sick children to the hospital in Sheffield from across the region and sometimes from further afield. It is on call 24 hours a day throughout the year and is manned by a consultant and a team of specialist nurses. It is ready to go at any time. Over the years thousands of mums and dads have been grateful that this unique service has been available to help their very poorly children.

The uniqueness of the children’s critical conditions and the equipment needed within this ambulance are what makes it so special to this hospital and to the families who have benefited from its use. It is this uniqueness that led the charity to be involved with Bear 1 and hence our involvement in funding its replacement.
