Nature wins through

THE wonder of nature knows no bounds - even in Tinsley.

The area next to the Meadowhall intersection has ben described as the most polluted spot in Europe and I don’t doubt that.

The campaigners have to live next to 10 lanes of motorway and underpass traffic, two huge and permanently busy traffic islands and Meadowhall.

But there is a delicious irony there in that the plastic banners that were put up years ago to protest about pollution and environmental damage are now barely visible because the trees and bushes have grown so vigorously over them.

Even among all the nitrous oxide, Co2 and the rest of the chemical soup that people have to breathe in around there nature ploughs on, sucks it up and grows as strong as ever.

There is even an apple tree laden with fruit in the centre island. Heaven knows how much gunk that tree has swallowed over the years to produce its yield.

I’m going to stop one of these days and pick some apples to see what they taste like.

If I survive I’ll let you know.
