A name of shame

TORY-wooing Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown is now playing a very dangerous game by paying homage, just like his predecessor Tony Blair, to Margaret Thatcher.

The now corroded old lady may have been a ‘conviction politician’ but most Labour voters think she should have been convicted for crimes against ordinary working people.

Praising the most despised Conservative leader in post-war history to earn a few plaudits is like making a pact with the Devil and by doing this Brown risks disappointing loyal supporters.

Of course Gordon Brown hailing Thatcher simply deflects right-wing attacks allowing him political cover to improve the lives of working people but he should never forget that Thatcher’s name is still spat, not spoken, by millions of people here in the North, Scotland, South Wales, some areas of the Midlands and even patches of the South. Thatcher crushed their communities, axed their jobs, stole their health and in many cases their self respect.

To hear a Labour leader praise this demon is very difficult to stomach – even if Brown is playing a great political game.
