MPs should fight for a share of the cake

Doncaster’s beleaguered mayor Ros (Casey) Jones now wants a rail link into Robin Hood airport, which she is branding as the “Jewel in the crown” of Doncaster, it has received £50 million Government funding, (which is still pubic money) ,for the FARRRS road project, a three-mile stretch of part single carriageway, part dual carriageway road from Rossington to Robin Hood Airport, but why?

We don’t see tailbacks of traffic queuing to get to one of the most expensive airports in the north.

I recently booked a holiday with Thomas Cook to Corfu, Robin Hood offered only night flights. The exact same holiday flying from Leeds/Bradford and with daytime flights was £216 cheaper. Why?

The residents of Yorkshire can’t even fly long-haul from Robin Hood, having to travel to Manchester for the privilege.

That’s despite the fact that Robin Hood airport recently hosted the world’s largest aircraft, the spectacular Antonov AN 225, so you can’t blame runway problems for the lack of flight availability.

We must ask this question of Doncaster’s three Labour opposition MPs, who seem to be in hibernation for the winter. Why are they not promoting the Government’s Northern Powerhouse scheme and promoting Robin Hood airport for our town?

It is central to the north of England. Why build a third runway at Heathrow, when we already have it at Doncaster?

Our MPs should be fighting for a share of the cake and bring job opportunities to our region. Give Yorkshire residents the same opportunities as those in other parts of the country.

The secret to Robin Hood’s success is simple – competitively cheap European flights, along with international destinations.
