Why we should leave the car at home and walk our children to school - letter

A school in Leeds is trialling no cars parked outside school at dropping of and picking up time.

Less cars outside school surely should be welcomed by parents, but hearing some of them talk on the radio you would think the council had asked them to walk five miles to school.

‘It’s our right to drive to the school gates’, ‘it’s a civil liberty, taking our rights away to park up’.

This Star reader is urging more parents and carers to walk children to school – when they fully re-open post-lockdown – to get fitter and to help the environment.

I remember the school run, jostling for parking, so we used to park further out – less cars parked – and walk in.

I love walking, I am a great advocate of it, so why not clean the air around school and use your legs, getting exercise and helping the environment too.
