I rarely, if ever, write to any newspaper however I feel as if i must respond to Jayne Grayson’s letter on 08.08.2020, ‘Who is policing quarantine?’.

This letter Ms Grayson is totally and utterly incorrect and could give out a seriously wrong message on returning from Spain.

The first part of the letter stating that it’s quiet over there is correct.

My wife and I were in Benidorm when the 14-day quarantine announcement was made.

Within two hours we were contacted by the airline via text message at 5.15am in the morning and this was then followed up by two emails from them stating we had to get a QR code to be allowed to return to the UK.

When in Alicante airport we were briefed by Border Control and asked to present the QR code to board the plane.

There was eight people who had not got the said code and they were pulled out of the queue and did not board the plane.

On arriving at Luton Airport on Monday, August 3 we were briefed by Border Control staff on the 14-day quarantine and asked for landline phone numbers.

Mobile numbers were not accepted as you could not be at home when you answer.

They even said if you do not have landline you stop somewhere that has one.

Finally, we have been contacted twice since we returned.

You can’t even take your dog for a walk.

It’s not pleasant and I would not recommend it to anybody, especially in this lovely weather.

I would love to have a “catch-up” with Jayne Grayson and her friends to discuss their return because it was certainly different to ours.

Roll on Monday, August 16.

Graham Spencer,
