Reader letter - Save us from the idiots

We’ve just returned home from shopping on The Moor.
Wearing a face mask is mandatory in shops.Wearing a face mask is mandatory in shops.
Wearing a face mask is mandatory in shops.

We did call in the market for four pounds of stew meat.

A rather large man was leaning on the glass counter.

He wasn’t wearing a mask and as he chatted to the owner of the butcher’s stall, it was quite obvious that a fine spray of spittle would no doubt fall on the meat that was displayed.

My wife pointed this out to the assistant who was serving her, saying: “Should he be doing that with no mask on?”

His reaction was a shrug of his shoulders.

She then approached what looked like the owner of the stall, whose reply was ‘we can’t tell him to wear a mask’.

The owner did tell the man that my wife had complained about him leaning over the displayed meat and he did step back, but surely the owner of the stall should have told him as soon as he started leaning on the counter and talking over the raw meat. He shouldn’t have this idiot pointed out to him.

God preserve us from idiots like him.
