Great letter from Tony Spillane (The Star, Thursday, June 17), on the whole, but I can’t see unattended automated modes of transport, like travellators and driverless pods doing well here.

In Shanghai and London Airport, a larger proportion of the population is orderly than is the case in town.

We have plenty of orderly and well-behaved people here, of course, but some are not so.

Travellators would be clogged and halted by rubbish and chewing gum, and pods would be vandalised in a very short time.

Sad, but there it is.

FreeBee buses for me.

The best option.

A propos of, er, nothing in particular, I relate the following.

About 20 years ago, my youngest went on his first holiday abroad without us, flying to Spain out of Manchester Airport.

I asked him what aspect of his holiday he was most looking forward.

He replied: “Running as fast as I like along the travellators.”

Just another normal day in the Grimsley family.

PS. Maybe we should get President Xi to run the city’s transport.

I’m sure he’d make the pods run on time!
