You asked Star readers to make suggestions as to how we could improve Sheffield city centre post-coronavirus-pandemic.

I have a suggestion.

Sheffield is a beautiful city and I’m speaking as someone who was born here, but moved to London when I was very young and only came back seven years ago.

Why not just allow freeholders of these buildings to change the use from commercial to residential?

A proportion could be let out on assured short-term tenancies to the vulnerably housed.

In terms of the sad sight of druggies, I’m not sure there’s anything really we can do.

As I’m sure you are aware, all cities have issues with this.

But it’s about trying to make the city centre feel safe for everyone.

I must admit, I’m fed up with being harassed by beggars all the way up Fargate and I’m just hoping that once services are up and running again properly, that many people will get the help they need.
