‘Expressions are deceiving’ and teenagers are happy, a reader letter

They are happy to be back despite the facial expressions in the picture below right – they are teenagers after all and, much like the Victorians, they feel smiling makes you look idiotic.
They are happy to be back despite the facial expressions... they are teenagers after all and, much like the Victorians, they feel smiling makes you look idiotic.

Both households, 40 miles apart, contained adults with other health conditions and so for the last 3 months contact has been solely via zoom despite rules allowing non resident children to visit and stay.

After discussions about nothing being ‘risk free’, how we can minimise risks and which risks we decide are worth taking, we decided having the kids back was one we really wanted to take if their mother agreed. Happily she did, on the condition they were fetched and didn’t use the train) and the house was filled with great excitement and much laundry in preparation for their arrival.

As they were arriving between ocado deliveries we were limited on food stocks so have made use of the fabulous doorstep deliveries and pick up meals from Domo ( the most amazing family tray bake lasagne), The Rhubarb shed’s family ploughman’s lunch/cream tea combo and Hathersage Social’s Sunday roast.

Together with home baked bread, a spot of online shopping and a few board games all accompanied by the usual Dad jokes, I think we can say that we’re working out how to be happy with our new normal.

Loving my subscription to The Star. Never read the paper before despite living in Sheffield 35 years. Current events and the pressures on local papers has made it seem both relevant and valuable. I’m liking the journalism more than a lot of the nationals at the moment. They are happy to be back despite the facial expressions... they are teenagers after all and, much like the Victorians, they feel smiling makes you look idiotic.
