A Sheffield Wednesday fan shares his despair at the clubs plight – Reader’s letter

“They think it’s all over… it is now” when you hear (or read) those words from the legendary 1966 World Cup Final commentary you can’t help but smile. Sadly it doesn’t seem that it’s quite so rosy or vitorious over at Hillsborough right now, and Ted Fowler is unsure exactly how the club (nevermind the chairman but he’ll get to that) can turn it around now.

Well it looks like it’s all over for my beloved Sheffield Wednesday. With all the will in the world I cannot see us getting out of this mess.We needed the equivalent of 7 wins to stave off relegation and the Birmingham game was one of the ‘bankers’. So I really do think it’s League 1 next season. What gets you mad is this was all so avoidable but when you have an owner who is stubborn beyond belief and will not listen to people other than his trusted adviser, who judging at the position we’re in, you have to say he’s obviously not very good at his job (is he?) or we wouldn’t be in this mess —then what chance have we got?To say (Chansiri) he’s a successful businessman he seems a bit slow on the the uptake. If he had run this club correctly he would own the biggest club in the biggest county in the country. He must have seen this first hand, firstly at Wembley and then at the Owls In The Park, which attracts around 15,000 people every year just to come and meet the players and see the new kit.How can he run a club from thousands of miles away, and not keep in touch with the fans? Does he think that by burying his head in the sand that everything will turn out ok?He will get one big shock next season when he’s sat at Hillsborough at the first home match in League 1 with about 10 or 11,000 fans there. Lose your fans and you lose everything.I always take a man at his word and did so right up to his two and a half hour interview he did when, among other things, he said, “yes I am aware we need strikers and some more players in and I will do that ,within reason” and he also mentioned that the clubs books were all in order so no fear of any transfer embargo. Well he’s failed on the first 2 promises and I am hearing rumours, yes I know they’re only rumours, that the books are 6 months late.I really hope I am wrong.Ted FowlerS5.
