Now for something different. David Bellamy, botanist and naturalist, died recently at the age of 86. When was the last time we saw him on TV or in the media? Not sure? Neither am I.

Apparently after having his own programmes on TV and and other forms of the media he was suddenly banished from our screens for having the audacity to disagree with the establishment “luvvies”, including once sceptic Sir David Attenborough, on climate change, calling it “poppycock”, which he declared was rubbish and untrue and was part of the earth’s natural cycle. Indeed he quoted that even in December we had strawberries and even frog spawn in February, not in this millennium but in 1863. He did agree that our world did get hotter but also colder over differing years.

In his own words he became a pariah simply for having a different opinion to the establishment and certainly most of his media work disappeared. Remember Lenny Henry’s take on David Bellamy in the undergrowth with his “grapple my grape nuts” phrase? Bellamy’s media work disappeared, ‘at a stroke’. That’s the power of the media for you. RIP David James Bellamy OBE.
