I read the article in The Star on Friday, November 29, regarding gritting and in particular on Stephen Drive in Crosspool.

The arrogance of Darren Butt in his reply is typical of a council boss. Insinuating a couple of 91- and 92-year- olds should use a grit bin is unbelievable.

I have worked as a carer for the council and worked in the Crosspool area and know what bad conditions the carers have to work in.

He's typical of the bosses who tell you to 'get on with it' while they sit in their cosy offices with tea and coffee on tap. He needs to get off his Butt and help those who are housebound.

How many times do you see the grit lorries out when it’s pouring with rain and the grit just gets washed away or they drive round with the gritter not in use?

While ever the lorries are out they are getting paid overtime, then when it snows they are nowhere to be seen.
