Late-night noise making life a misery

We live near the Botanical Gardens and in addition to the numbers of students driving out families and other local people live with constant late night noise.

The past academic year brought a minimum of three nights a week when we were woken up between midnight and 5-30 am.

Loud music and general noise from houses is part of the problem, the other being anti social behaviour on the streets as people return from clubs and pubs. Noise is part of this along with the old favourite of riding in wheelie bins or just pushing them over.

During the so called quite months when students are away we were still woken up at least one night a week by those that had stayed in Sheffield. This week, prior to term starting, we had noise from a house that started at 12-30 am and continued until 5-30 am then last night/morning they woke us at 3-30am with music and general noise.

When my wife asked them to turn the noise off they said they would turn it down. Eventually they agreed to turn it off but other noise continued. We also heard them tell their guests to make as much noise as possible when they left.

This they7 did around 4am including swearing and abuse aimed at my wife. When the landlord was informed about this today he said he would get in touch with the accommodation office at the universities as his tenants took no notice of him ! I'd say this was a low level of tenant management from him whilst raking in 800 per month.

There is no point in contacting the police who will take no action unless there is evidence of violence, criminal damage etc and the council can only take action if there is recorded high levels of noise from a single household whereas the problem is sporadic and varied. The solution?

Move house and admit defeat !
