It's time to bring back the birch

DUE to the unprecedented wave of knife and gunshot incidents in many of our major cities the Government have decided to take the following action.

Nottingham has been chosen as the site for a two year test case which will involve the abolition of the human rights bill for any citizen living or visiting the city.

To provide the police strength on the streets all regular police officers will vacate their desk jobs and work in eight hour shifts on the beat.

All clerical duties, including writing up incident reports, will be performed by community police officers.

The Police will be allowed full stop-and-search powers of which ever section of the community they feel are the most likely to be involved in the carrying of weapons.

‘The police will be issued with mobile birching vans - MBVs’

For the duration of the test period, instead of short prison sentences, community service fines or asbos, the Government have decided to reintroduce immediate corporal punishment for any citizen found on the streets in possession of weapons.

This system will operate in the following manner.

The police will be issued with mobile birching vans to be known as MBV’s.

The vehicles will be operated by a special hand picked squad who will be on call twenty four hours a day and only minutes away from any part of the city.

The rear of the vehicle will be fitted out with a flat bed board six foot by three, with an aperture for the recipient’s face, with three strong leather straps with which to firmly secure the offender face down and stripped from the waist to his feet.

The two man crew would then administer six strokes of the best with the well tried birch across the recipients buttocks.

In the event of a repeat offending by the same person at some later date, the amount of strokes would be doubled. Mug shots, front and rear will be taken for public display.

I feel sure that within a few months of using this method it would be extremely unlikely any would be thug would even consider venturing out on the city’s streets armed with a gun or knife. The solution to the street killings would be as simple as that.

It only needs the Government’s will to place citizen’s human rights and well being before those of the country’s thugs and criminals. If only!

But just for a moment imagine the Government had the will and the guts to initiate such a scheme, and imagine after a few recipients had their raw bleeding backsides and facial mug shots sped around the world on the internet, how many cocky young thugs would risk walking past a couple of cops late at night with a gun or knife in their pocket?

Although some people would no doubt consider such a proposal rather draconian, would it not be wonderful if it had been in force years ago and the hundreds of victims knifed and shot to death on our streets were still alive.

When you think would it not be far better to birch ten weapon carrying thugs than bury one more Rhys Jones.

I know what the public and members of the victims families would think!
