Irritating and pointless phrases

Just writing to say how much I agree with Max Nottingham, (Letters, December 42).

Police beats are long gone and the apparent inability of the media to recognise this is irritating.

Also irritating is the proliferation of pointless phrases which verge on being gibberish and serve no useful purpose.

Another good example of this would be, ‘authority professions’, when presumably what is meant is police.
