“I met the love of my life in the first lockdown” – Star Readers share their lockdown love stories

Lots of things are difficult to do (or achieve) during a lockdown, but thanks to technology and the brief gaps in lockdown restrictions over the last 320 days (yep, it's really been that long since the first lockdown), we were hopeful that love had still managed to found a way through this time.

We asked our readers if they’d been lucky enough to find love during lockdown and this is what they had to say.

Andrew Burkinshaw shared his story of finding love; “yes, I did, we started chatting in March, my partner was shielding until August, we went on our 1st social distance date to Rother Valley, and we've managed to get a couple of camping weekends in, and we are now happy together. We have a stay at home date night Saturdays. She is my world.”

Another one who found love was Ellis Hodgkinson, who said that they had; “started talking daily before lockdown and managed to have a couple dates. In May, I moved and he became my bubble and we have spent everyday together. We’re expecting our little princess due 27th February. This year might have been tough for a lot of people but it definitely brought me and him together and can't wait for us to be a family when our daughter arrives. The hard bit will be our family not getting to meet her till this lockdown is lifted”

Tracy Whitham shared a delightful tale of a love she saw being exhibited; “walking in our local park . An elderly couple were 'ballroom' dancing to their music . It was so beautiful to watch. They were definitely in love, doing what they love, in lockdown.”

Leanne Foddie kept it short and succinct; “absolutely”, which was followed followed by a truly heart melting reply from Ricci Dunn; “I loved you before lockdown but it has grown massively and continues to do so since the lockdowns have been happening” — we’re not crying, you are.

James Dunne also met his love in lockdown; “We met just before lockdown and have been lucky enough to find true love. Now moved in together because spending constant time in lockdown meant we were able to blossom and the relationship moved quicker than we expected.” As did Charlotte; “She moved to Sheffield just before the first lockdown, we’ve since moved in together and got engaged and taken on two kittens”.

And, Natalie Donson certainly did; “met him in July, and I’ve been staying with him since October, so we’re not breaking any rules.” As did, Jo Jo Sawyer who met; “the love of my life in the first lockdown, communication is the word, I met him through Facebook through friends, he’s my future my everything I met him in the June and went to meet him in September”.

Sharon Maris already has her love; “can not wait for the day to see my husband at his care home to be inside in his room when I have had my jab” — hopefully that day comes soon Sharon. Take care flower.

There were some sad stories, like that of Callum White, who said; “I did, I fell madly for them, but the stress from work and my inability to make my feelings known made us drift apart and lose each other. I just wish I didn't lose them” — hopefully you’ll find your way through this Callum. Keep on giving love a chance.

And, Wendy Houlston says that; “it would be nice to have a conversation with somebody” — we’re sure someone would love to talk to you also, Wendy.

Matthew Ellis opened up in a wonderful (if heartbreaking) way, when he said; “I haven't found love now or even before lockdown it seems to me people with autism find it really hard to find love l guess l will never find love”, but our readers rallied around to boost his confidence, like Mark Clark Andrew who replied saying; “someone for everyone out there mate. She will come when you least expect it” and Tracey Price who said; “never give up love, you’ll find your perfect match and they’ll find theirs x” — do you know what Matthew? They’re right.

There were also a fair few rather amusing takes on love, and sometimes you’ve just got to love a little bit of comedy.

Chris James in lieu of a real life crush said; “I've put lipstick on a mop, called her Sandra, and we're both into clean living.”

Donna Louise Sharpe Bracho was certainly creative, when she said; “I developed a love for baking but unfortunately my clothes are now socially distancing from my round derriere.”

And this story from Archie-Lee Thomas Carnall definitely doesn’t need an introduction; “My sister introduced us a couple of months back. I was sceptical at first; I had been let down so many times before and wasn’t happy with the experience so I took myself off the market. However, with Corona, I thought I’d try something new. Although I was weary, I called them and it’s been a beautiful relationship ever since. They never let me down. I love you, S5 Costa Rica Pizza” — a slice of the nice life, we see.

Finally, John Leaver is… well… yeah, a bit of a dreamer. He said; “To be honest I’ve been getting really close to Rita Ora during this lockdown. Well it’s a cardboard cutout of her but obviously this is a temporary fix with her not being able to travel to Kiveton Park during the Covid pandemic” — well, okay then.
