People can also not meet others from different households inside and groups of six will only be able to meet in outdoor public spaces, such as parks and public gardens.

This is what they said.

Eileen MorgAn said: “No, we wouldn't be in this situation if everyone adhered to the rules from the beginning of pandemic and stopped been selfish to other people.”

Pat Bradshaw said: “No chance, we will lockdown for three weeks in January after Christmas – definitely.”

Tina Hammond said she was confused about why the city is still in tier three because of the latest data.

She said: “Now they are saying the R rate is below one so surely that means we can be let out again!!”

Paul Welsby had a prediction.

He said: “We won't be out till Easter or just after.”

Laura Kay Hancock said: “I can’t see how another two weeks will make much more difference seen as we’ve already been in tier three and lockdown for six weeks and haven’t come out of it any better.

"The ‘essential’ trades and education sector are having the largest effect at the moment and others trades shouldn’t be penalised for that.”

Elaine Sorsby said she could not see the situation getting any better for the next year.

She said: “No chance, we’ll be lucky if its next Christmas, nobody’s taking this seriously.”

Referring to the festive bubble, Karen Corker-Leary said: “I doubt we will be let out then, we will have the five days Covid is on holiday, then we’ll have lockdown again.”

Rob Hatfield was quite blunt with his response, but obviously felt passionately about the topic.

He said: “I literally couldn't care less. Fighting a pandemic and protecting the vulnerable is more important than a selfish desire to have your own way simply because your mind lacks the ability to comprehend adapting to new circumstances.

"Plus life is too short to spend your days angry anyway. Can't do what you originally planned? So what? Do something else, enjoy what really matters & remember it won't be forever. It's as easy as that.”

Manda Stringer was more positive and simply said ‘yep’.

Referring to the fact that cities in the south are in tier 2 while northern cities like Sheffield are in tier 3, Lynne Tipper said: “Only if they move South Yorkshire 150 miles south.”

Zander Sheldon suggested that the lockdown measures need to be stricter to give a chance for the city to move in to a lower tier.

They said: “If they shut schools then maybe!”
