Henderson’s building

I’m sure that we’re all delighted that the Henderson’s Relish building lives to fight another day in its reincarnation as a pub.

Congratulations to Sheffield University on their innovative plans.

However, wearing my cynical hat, I do hope that this is not just a sop to the closure of the nearby University Arms, rumours of which have abounded for a while.

The University has grandiose plans for Western Bank and No197, (formally Club 197), may well be in the way of “progress”.

It started life as the vicarage to the nearby Grade II listed St George’s Church, whose vistas have been obliterated by the dreadful new Diamond building.

Can Keith Lilley of the University Estates Department give us his assurances that in his long-term Campus masterplan, the old vicarage will not suffer the same fate as the Jessop and be obliterated from the map?
