Fred's sad death

I WAS fortunate to meet Fred Pass at a talk he held at Walkley Library almost four years ago, some months after I'd read his wonderful book, Weerz Me Dad?

It was so funny, it took me two days to read just one paragraph - I couldn't read it without laughing at several attempts, and so much I cried. It is sad, poignant, happy, hilariously funny and should be read in all secondary schools as a historical reference for times long gone but still remembered by so many - a couple of chapters a week read out loud by a teacher might well encourage and improve levels of attendance; my then 14 year-old son loved it. I spent the first seven years of my life in the same area and found from reading the book that we went to the same GP.

How sad is his passing for his family, friends, those he helped and all Sheffielders.
