Editor: Show some love regardless of how young or old you feel

Things are definitely getting better, including in the romance category for Sheffielders if the stories in today’s Star are anything to go by.
Love is in the air ...Love is in the air ...
Love is in the air ...

You can’t help but be happy for others when you read wonderful tales of love that endures over decades and through pandemics.

It is amazing what people have to put up with in their lives and the amount of weddings which have been cancelled due to lockdown has set many marriages on a path which couldn’t have been anticipated.

Being stood up at the alter is one thing. Not being allowed to walk down the aisle at all because of Covid-19 is quite another.

We all know somebody who has had to postpone the big day and there are lots of lovebirds who are still unsure when they will be able to get all their nearest and dearest together – even though they had planned to have been past their first anniversary by now.

These have been difficult days and I hope wedding parties will be back in full swing soon … even those awful speeches and embarrassing first dances.

Then there are the stories of childhood sweethearts who have been through thick and thin together more times than most of us can imagine.

It is always interesting to read about milestone wedding anniversaries and the 50 or so years which have passed in the meantime. It is hard for many to understand what it is like stick by somebody for a couple of years, let alone half a century. We have a lot to learn about compromise from such couples.

There is something very uplifting about today’s story of Gloria and Tony, who have rediscovered each other and their childhood love at a time of life when some might not have carried such a hope.

Let them be an inspiration to us all.

Love is always out there, no matter what your age and we can all find happiness if we go through the decades with kindness.

Even if you aren’t a soppy, romantic like me, I am sure you love a happy ending and I am sure you will join me in wishing Gloria and Tony future joy together.

Here’s to more Sheffielders making each other happy and rekindling old friendships as we step carefully out of these restrictions.
