That is one of the best things about living in such a friendly place but it should also be a great advantage when terrible things occur.

This weekend a Sheffielder lost his life and I have no doubt at all that there are lots of folk in this city who know exactly what happened.

The detectives leading the investigation into this tragedy are sure that the answers to this investigation lie within the local community.

That is so often true.

While there may be people who refuse to help the police to bring the perpetrators to justice because of misplaced loyalties, all anybody should care about is that a man has died and we must get to the truth of what happened in those fateful hours.

A family has been destroyed and scores of friends will be devastated by this waste of a life. There is never an excuse for violence and this is an utterly awful way to die.

Whatever you read between the lines of what happened that night and whatever comes out over the next few weeks and months, it is important that both sides get to tell their stories in court. Justice must be done and must be seen to be done. This is not just about punishment but also about a strong deterrent.

So if you know something, no matter whether you think it is relevant or not, please get in touch with the police and let them decide.

Marcus Ramsay deserved better than this. Every Sheffielder does.

Let’s capitalise on being the largest village and let’s get this awful crime solved together.

One thing is for sure, the police will get a result an awful lot quicker if people pull together behind them.

That is true for all crime and it is worth us all keeping that in mind if we want to keep our city as safe as we can for ourselves, our families and every single person who calls this place home.
