Do something about 'rat run' before someone is hurt

Over recent years, on the stretch of road between Cypress Gate and Firtree Rise on the 'rat-run' called Chapel Road, Chapeltown, there have been a couple of fairly serious accidents and many near-misses.

The latter are inevitably caused by the 'boy racers' who travel up and down at more than 50-60mph.

Mobile speed cameras have been positioned on the straight stretch of road from Cypress Gate up the estate towards Ash View, to little avail. The main area of concern is the part of the road from Cypress Gate down the estate which has a couple of long bends in it. Visitors' cars/utility service vehicles/delivery vans etc. have to park on the road, on both sides, thus narrowing the thoroughfare.

Something needs to be done on this stretch of road before the next accident does occur – next time it might not be the back and side panel of a car whose innocent driver will now have to fork out several hundred pounds for bodywork repairs – it might be a young child or an elderly resident.

Why should we have to continue suffering this, particularly as these 'boy racers' probably don't even live nearby, but merely use Chapel Road as a short cut?
