Council needs to be careful with litter before criticising us

I READ that the council are to increase the amount of litter fine personnel and that 250 people have been fined £70 each for depositing litter.

They should start in their own back yard. The workers and contractors contribute a vast amount of litter which blocks the drains.

The grass verges are cut but the cuttings are left and pavements and roads to rot and block the drains. The trees shed their leaves which are again allowed to rot, which usually takes three or four months.

Bin men drop litter but don't bother to pick it up. Surplus bags of rubbish placed against the bins are often left and then are attacked by animals, therefore depositing more rubbish onto the streets.

The contractors working on the modernisation of council houses, drive their vans and lorries onto the grass verges and depositing mud onto the roads.

The workers have their lunch in their vans and then proceed to deposit chip papers, crisp bags, chocolate wrappers, cigarettes and packets all over the place.

Torn plaster and cement bags and skip rubbish are all blown about.

The plasterers, brickies and painters all wash out their buckets etc down the grates in the street. Even police horses leave their own message wherever they go.
